The Angel is from the stone of Charles Stuart, October 13, 1802 Peterborough, N.H. In the 1800's the trumpeting angel was a popular secular item carved onto gravestones in New England.......The Archangel Gabriel is the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy. On New England gravestones, Gabriel is carved in flight, often with a book in hand and blowing his trumpet.
